My kids broke my timer... |

So for the last 4 months I've been stitching without one and just doing a loose goal based rotation. When I finished a project last night I was kinda sad
not seeing how many hours it took me

I envy those of you that keep track of your time. I tried to but, I get up and down a lot of times when I am stitching, dogs out, dogs in, hubby wants coffee,
phone rings, puppy screams. I forget to turn the timer off or back on so I gave up. Last month I kept track of what I stitched on which days so I knew
exactly what days I didnt stitch on. That was a first for me. I was doing it this month to...but I have missed putting in some days. I guess I'm just
not a keep track of stuff person.

Dorothy,
yeah, I lost it loooooong ago! I was so bad when the kids were a lot younger that I even had a stop watch in
the van! But, now that they have gotten older and I'm not sitting out in front of the schools as much, I no longer have it in there (and because it did die
on me and I didn't want to waste the $4 and change to get a new one). But, now on my Treo I have a stop watch program so I use that instead!
Pamela, you're off to a good start. Keeping track of the days you do and don't stitch is good. Before I started using the stop watch, I use to guessimate the time I spent stitching. If I sat down to stitch at 9 P.M. and put things away at 11 P.M., I could estimate out of those 2 hours approximately how long I stitched. Doesn't have to be an exact science. Then again, keeping track of stitching time isn't for everyone either. TerrY ***TWBBer since Sep '98/Rotation Stitcher since Sep '02***

I didn't think I'd be one to enjoy keeping track of my stitching time. But I do! I don't use a stopwatch though. So mine is just a close estimate. When I sit down to stitch, I write down the time on small tablet of scratch paper and when I'm done, I write down that end time (taking in to account and subtracting the approximate minutes spent looking at the tv or devoted to other distractions.) When I'm completely done stitching for the day, I total it up and put that time in my journal, which is basically a list of each day and what WIP I worked on and how much time I spent on that WIP. I list from Sunday to Saturday and add it up for each week. Then I add it up for each month and then for the whole year. It's not a computer spreadsheet- just my own handwriting in a notebook. And of course, colored pencils to pretty it up! I've been doing this for over 2 years now and it is interesting to see how much (or how little) I stitch each day or each week or each month (when I feel like looking back over it.) I write little notes about what's going on in my life and that's kind of neat to see too! You haven't lost anything! I say do what makes you happy!

I used to keep track of time spent stitching and had a rotation book. I gave it up a few years ago as it just wasn't for me.
I went without a watch for over three years just a few years ago (There are bells at school...) , so that tells you how I feel about them. Sue |

I have a stopwatch that you hang round your neck and I've often thought about using it to time my stitching, but then I thought that maybe only big
saddo's did things like that and forced the idea out of my head. It is so nice to know there are others as demented as me in the world

I don't time my stitching, but I do use a journal to keep track of exercise and weight. It's interesting to look back now that I've been doing it
for over two years. Yep, I can definitely confirm that my weight is lower when I'm exercising regularly (duh). It's motivating though so I see no
reason why the same couldn't apply to stitching for other people!

I use the stopwatch on my phone to keep track of stitching. I do sometimes forget to stop/start when I'm up and down cooking dinner and such, but you do
get into the habit. And putting it the stopwatch on top of your WIP when you put it down to go do something makes it easier.
Each day I write down what I worked on and for how long in a freebie CrossStitcher diary. That way I know what days I stitched and for how long on what, and work out weekly/monthly totals. I also keep a 10 hr rotation sheet to keep track of what I should be stitching on. Obsessive? Why yes. But I enjoy it. :P

I've recently begun keeping track of my time. I use a kitchen timer since it was what I already had. It's fascinating to me to see how much time is
spent stitching a project. When I realized I had done 40 hours, I thought...Wow a whole work week has gone into this and I'm not even finished!
