What side is your stitching light on?

Well, I was just reading comments on my question of if we lean while we stitch when one of the comments made me think about the side we put our lights.

So, tell me, do you place your lamp to your left or to your right? Or are you totally different and have it behind you or above you?

For me, I have it to my left. I'm right handed and I've discovered that if I put it on the right, then I get a shadow going across my stitching so it's got to be on the left.

Rotation Scientist

Depends on where/when I'm stitching. I find I can stitch in the family room without a lamp at all if I stitch there from around 10am to around 2-3pm at this time of year. We have a sky light in the kitchen that gives light to the kitchen/family room.

If I am stitching in the living room the lamp is behind me and over my shoulder. I can't remember if it's left or right shoulder as it's more of behind me.

If I am stitching in bed then the lamp is on my left. Though I really need the lamp on DH's side of the bed on as well to get enough light overall, but the majority of the light is coming from the left as I have more than one lamp on that side.

When I first got my lap stand, I couldn't decide whether to stitch with left hand on top or right hand on top. I found I kept switching and it depended on where the light source was coming from as to which one cause less of a shadow. I think these days I mostly stitch right hand on top as it is more comfortable, and I'm more likely with the current house set up to have the lamp on my left, unlike when I first got my stand. Though if I had to I bet I could still swap out. The great thing with two-handed stitching is I've found it has improved my dexterity with my left hand.

I'm like Terry, i have it on my left. I'm right handed as well and found with the light on the right side I get shadows from my hand.

My lamp is off to my right at the moment. It has a top light that shoots up to the ceiling and an adjustable neck light and I point this small light right at the middle of my stitching. I love the adjustable neck as I'm always moving around. This is the best thing I have found to keep the shadows away

My light is on my left. If it was on the right, my stitching hand would make a shadow.

I'm also a right hand on top, light on the left. Since I use a Dazor, it's actually to the left and in front of me.

My Ott floor light is on my right. I'm right handed, but I use a lap stand holding Qsnaps and stitch two-handed. My right hand is always under and my left hand is on top..... so no shadow issues for me. I sit on the right side of love seat recliner and tend to lean to the right arm side which is where my chart holding clipboard sets.

My stitching lamp is always on my left side whether stitching in hand (on my Q-Snaps) or on my stand.

I don't have any "shadow" problem, even if I'm right handed as most of the time I stitch with both hands (when using my stand) but something in the angle of the light bothers me if it's not above me or on my left side.

I have it on the right and slightly behind me. It's close to the outlet and the way my livingroom is set up it's the best place for it.

Mine's over my right shoulder. I'm right handed with rihgt hand on the bottom so no shadow here, I did have it over my left for a long time when I moved here but it really got on my nerves until I got my butt into gear and moved it

If I stich "directly" on the cloth I have the light on the left, as I am also right handed. But when I use a frame I use both hands, one over and another under. And the hand that goes over the stitched piece is the contrary to the light. I can use both hands either way. And most of the times I use a frame, but I must admit I feel more comfortable when it is the left hand the one that is under the cloth.

Incredibly Optimistic!

Same here as most of you; I have my light on the left side and stitch with my right hand. I hate getting the shadow across my stitching if the light is on the right side.

Floss Girl

My light is made like a Dazor but it's another brand that was cheaper. I'm looking through the glass and the light is a flourescent circle around the glass. So it swings over from the left, but it is directly above my hands when stitching.
